Default Thank you

The other morning I was requesting a Jumpseat out of Durango, CO (DRO). Fully-loaded flight on EMB-145. Weather was crap everywhere. I had to spend the night in the airport due to cancellations and I was bumped off a previous Jumpseat.

You guys stepped up and helped me get home after being separated from my family the day before. Your captain worked with the dispatcher to find a better alternate that would allow me to ride.

I am truly grateful for him helping to make this happen. I’m sure there are some of you on here who have been in the same position. It’s a tight spot but going the extra mile for one another is what makes this profession so great.

I hope I can extend a Jumpseat to one of you soon. Thank you again for your professionalism and your attention to a desperate jumpseater.

This happens more than one might imagine. On Thanksgiving Day I saw a CA work with Dispatch to pick a better alternate and lower contingency fuel so we could take 48 instead of the 40 pax the initial numbers crunched out. All done safely and professionally.

A lot of us here have commuted at some point. 99% will do what we can to make the numbers work. We get it.

As a captain, I can only think of one time I've left a jumpseater behind. It was exceptionally bad weather and we just couldn't find suitable alternates closer to the destination, but we really tried to make it work (had to bump a couple pax, too, unfortunately).

I can add a +1 to this. I have only jumpseated on Trans States once, but the loads weren't good to anywhere that day so they got me out of a tight spot in that regard, and I thought the flight crew was a class act. They had to jump through some hoops to get me on, but they did it, and I felt welcomed by both the CA/FO and the FA. One of the great things about this job.
