Trans State Info
Hey all, i'm a CFII thats thinking about applying at Trans States Airlines but I was looking for more information about them; QOL, corporate culture, etc. Im slightly confused on where their bases are; APC lists St. Louis and Richmond as their bases, but the TSA website includes Dulles, ORD and a few others as bases. Pay looks comparable to some other regionals i'm thinking about (Pinnacle and Eagle, even though Eagle is slightly higher) but I did notice they're ALPA contract was amendable July 2006. Are the pay scales and bennies on APC correct? If not, whats current? Thanks for the info.
PS: Waterski as the company callsign? Whats up with that?

TSA is everything people make it out to be.......horrible. I have several friends still there and they define the term miserable. They base in STL and RIC, and if your based at STL you will be doing hotel reserve at RIC. Pay per hour is comperable, but other companies offer other things such as better scheduling, stock options, and a reputation. Look around a little more and building your time. Uncle Hooley is just not worth it.
BTW: Waterski comes from Ozark Airlines, which flew from STL to AIZ (lake ofthe Ozarks)

Hey warriordriver~
If you can help it, STAY AWAY FROM TRANS STATES! I have a few good friends there now, all of whom have NOTHING good to say about it. I had the job in hand a few months ago and with the more and more I heard about TSA's work rules and policies, the more and more I thanked the high heavens something better came along before I committed to them. If you want further info, I'm sure you could talk to just about any FO there now. Beware!

i'm enjoying it so far
i came to richmond which was involuntary, but i sat reserve for a month, and the most i sat home reserve was 45mins, and i sat airport reserve twice.
i'm now holding a line after the first month, and the group out in richmond here is pretty cool as well

The above mentioned stuff is all true. I lived in St. Louis and it was my first airline job, so I didn't have as bad of a time as some did. Almost everyone I flew with was good to fly with.
I would not have known any better if I didn't have SkyWest to compare it to. I currently commute from St. Louis to Fresno and would rather do that than work for Uncle H again. Commuting on Frontier, United, SkyWest and Trans States on a regular basis, it is amusing how bitter the Trans States people are compared to everyone else who is happy to fly who they fly for. You probably won't care your first year how crappy it is, but after the new jet feeling wears off, you will see why everyone is telling you stay away.
Chances of getting any future flying is slim in my opinion. You don't know if management is going to pull another brilliant unnecessary furlough. Tons of tension between pilots and the company. If you do do it, don't stay long!
Good luck!

Just to clarify, pilots dont think of TSA pilots like they do of GoJet pilots right? I know they are of the same holding company, but everything i have heard so far leads me to believe just gojet pilots are hated. The question is, would working at TSA disqualify me for a job in the future or not?
Also I was lookin at the route maps and richmond wasnt even listed as a base, just a regular destination. Is it new, and which codeshare airlines fly out of it? Thanks for the info
