ALPA losing steam at Horizon
It looks like the big ALPA push at Horizon may not be going far. They brought in the food and drink, the promises and big wigs...they even enlisted the support of the Horizon guys who were part of the old guard that helped fatten the wallet of Gene Sowell...
In the end, it does not look like they got far.
Maybe it's because they saw ALPA wrapping their arms around the guys who funneled their money to a now deposed and disgraced union leader who did nothing for them. And when he was kicked out, they fought to get him back.
Maybe it's because Sluys (the same guy who picked Tim Martin), made all sorts of promises that they realized he would never deliver on.
Maybe they saw the promises ALPA made to ATI vaporize...and saw how their ongoing contract negotiations/mediation would be harmed and delayed by changing horses...a move that would only help ALPA by enriching their coffers.
or...
Maybe it's because they see their union leadership getting the support they were promised by the IBT.
Maybe they see strong leadership, not slogans...they see mistakes admitted and fixed, not swept under the rug.
Maybe they see a union that's grown over 30% in the last 2 years...not shrunk.
Maybe they see a union unafraid to take on management when necessary, and still be able to sit down with CEO's to find ways to save jobs.
Maybe they see that by standing in unity with other labor groups...like their mechanics who are also in the same union; they have more leverage if they ever do have to strike.
Perhaps the Horizon pilots have figured something out that others have as well. That when you stand together in unity with your fellow employees at your airline, it's a hell of a lot harder for management to break you.
