Thats because regionals don't own the flying and it can be sourced to the next lowest bidder. For a strike to be effective it has to be done when you own the flying, which is why all flying should be done at the mainline.

But hasn't it been the airlines motive to generally screw over the crews, who make their operation happen, to make more money and keep credibility. Your job might be great, but what about the other ones out there sleeping in crash pads and making a pittance? My question is more general I guess. Thank you for the input though.

Unfortunately this would require the unity of a unit going into combat. If you can't rely on the person next to you, your F&^*%@d.

Despite the brash title, this is NOT a flame bait thread. I swear. I was recently offered a job with Eagle when they picked up hiring again. In fact was hired by them twice. The first time I spent a year in the pool, praying everyday that they would call me and save me from my horrible existence of flight instruction. However, the DAY before I was offered a class date by Eagle, I was offered a corporate job getting twice as much money, turbine PIC and a much better quality of life. It felt pretty good to tell the recruiter that, after waiting over a month to hearing anything after my interview date.
Anyway, My question lies from an outsider stand point only, being that I've got zero 121 time. It is in no way being brought up to degrade or put down your wages or QOL. I am interested in your points of view to hopefully better this profession for all of us. So here goes. In a dream world it would be great to see every ALPA pilot tell their respective regional (or national
) airline to go !#%* themselves at start getting the pay and QOL you deserve.
What would be the down side of a full on ALPA strike? I highly doubt Obama is gonna pull a Reagan/PATCO situation. On the flip side, I know this economy isn't exactly the best time to be asking for more money, but when is.... Let the games begin.

The regional side especially is stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can be replaced not only by cheap labor but by other fellow ALPA pilots.
As it was mentioned, the real problem always lies with mainline. They have the power to fix the regional industry so that there wouldn't have to be so much cut throat competition but of course that's intended.

They won't quite simply because things aren't that bad yet where pilots would be tempted to grab their pitch forks.

The problem lies with all of the pilots who are willing to sell our skills and services at substandard wages or QOL. At some point we must decide that a certain level of compensation is required for our experience and skills.
