Nope...........

Airhoss 03-11-2017 08:39 AM

Not going to happen.

Flytolive 03-11-2017 08:46 AM

Kirby said no southeastern hub.

Maybe I could be junior to myself!

Or Frontier

Sonny Crockett 03-11-2017 11:10 AM

When I was hired in mid 1999 the class drops had a "future" A320 MCO base listed. That rumor has been going around at least 18 years!

If he said that chances are good it'll happen!

Yes MCO is going to be a pilot base for United.
It will open just after PHX. PHX is going to be 737/320/787/777, about 3000 pilots total. Announcement soon. As soon as it is fully staffed expect MCO to be announced.
:)

That's great news! We live near Orlando and are tired of commuting. :D

Care to elaborate?

I think he just about summed it up.....what other details would you like?

Airhoss 03-12-2017 02:52 PM

What about HNL or ANC?

Since you read it on APC it is guarentieed to be factual and true and not false or malicious, it is also perfectly honest and reliable, not untrustworthy or unreliable.

dmeg13021 03-12-2017 03:51 PM

I think ORK is next

Yak02 03-12-2017 03:52 PM

HNL is reopening on the next vacancy bid. It will be the mother-load of bids!

Unfortunately, it is a B737 base only. It will have the GUM $3000/mo override. The 747 pilots can't wait to get bumped into it.

bogeydriver 03-12-2017 04:57 PM

Don't rule anything out with Scott Kirby. He's looking under every AA and DL rock out there for opportunities. 757/767 service to MCO from EWR hourly would be insanely profitable. We did it at Eastern and it was one of the few domestic operations, other than the Shuttle, that was consistently in the black. I think other spoke flights to the other hubs could justify a 756 base there. We shall see.

Right after SEA.

From a friend of a friend, who has a friend in management: SE hub does not make sense for UA because like any legacy - they make most money from business pax who live in the hub area. and as far as connectivity - IAH already serves Latin - so MCO really is just a destination market with a lot of inbound leisure but less outbound business to be found and the kicker - no hometown advantage .. if SWA/ Frontier/ Spirit/ JetBlue announce fare drops great for families - UA has do the same, they can't rely on loyalty // as you can see the aforemention LCCs are competing in a lot in that space - UA is much more interested in challenging rising competition in SFO and DEN than to put significant hub resources into a place that just has amusement parks. - it's not worth the experiment

Deafguppy 03-12-2017 11:55 PM

Hey, it's the annual winter MCO base rumor!

EWR-MCO is one of the lowest yielding city pairs United has, all leisure. Eastern wasn't competing with Spirit, Allegiant, JetBlue, etc that are all depressing fares even further.

APC225 03-13-2017 07:57 PM

It may be shortsighted to consider only yield in a city pair. When a regular United customer wants to go to MCO it might be more dollars in the long term to have that flight available, even if it isn't busting in profitability, because it keeps that customer--and many others--in the United network so that next year, when they decide to go to international, they stay with United. MCO may be unique in this consideration because it seems a great number of people have that on their list of must go places. DSM? Maybe not so much.

Precisely, same as HNL and LAS.

Grumble 03-14-2017 10:16 AM

I'll take a DSM overnight over MCO every time.

Depends on the time of year. Been there enough in the winter over the last 2 decades that unless my low beer/scotch/whisk(e)y master warning is blaring/immediately actions required won't silence, I don't even wanna go outside.

But yeah, there's PLENTY of small-medium city overnights that to me rival larger ones.

I also heard that there will be no short-call reserves in MCO - all Long Call

I heard it'll be reverse seniority where the junior pilots are all line holders and the senior are forced to reserve.

Rawhide51 03-16-2017 01:51 PM

In all honestly though, I see MCO making more sense then CLE.

Tulsa Oklahoma. That's the next big international domicile.

Perfect, a place where the ground controllers speak as slow as I do.

Airhoss 03-18-2017 07:08 PM

Lots of befinits to having a Tulsa base.
