Record in terms of speed, like I said. I think the settlement occurred in something like 10 business days after the event. That is a record, no doubt.

Even insurance settlements where the insured client was clearly at fault, typically takes months or years. It is standard practice to give sufficient time for investigation and discourages ambulance chasers... according to my attorney friends.

Appparently, the "slip and fall" class of the traveling public recognizes it, hence the recent challenges to crew authority.

Also, regardless of his history, he graduated medical school, so he earned the title MD.

Not defending him, just telling it like it is.

His medical license was revoked for several years, so not really in good standing.

Right now, the public hates all things airline. We need to turn this around where the bad guy negatively impacts passengers and it becomes clear that he is responsible for delaying everyone.

That would be stupid to give him that. Federal laws limit airline damages to $75k Maximum. If he had chosen to go through full litigation his lawyers 1) wouldn't do it, or 2) would get all the money. Plus the logic that "United didn't want to make the trial public" is stupid. It would likely never go to trial, since United would be REMOVED as a plaintiff and only Republic and the Chicago Airport Police. Plus fighting these people STOPS other's in the future.

The rumored massive settlement is what has people being jerks on the planes.

Did he not purchase a ticket on United? Did he not check in at the United Terminal and wasn't it a United Gate agent?

Personally, I would have loved to have seen this go through the court system. Oscar and our Management Team did us (Front Line Employees) no favor by settling. Now, every wannabe hero/victim will come out of the woodwork when the opportunity presents itself. Even if there are only 1-2% of them out there, that means on every one of our mainline flights we have between 2-5 of them onboard looking to cash in.

Not good.

wow. of course, usually, these forum posts have some errors, or stupid comments. but i don't think i've ever seen a post where absolutely every single sentence was completely wrong, sverign..

Federal laws do not limit airline damages. there are some intl treaties and conventions (like Montreal) that limit damages in some cases (intl flts between signatory nations; no proof of negligence). but for US domestic flights with gross negligence or intentional torts - no limit.

plaintiff's lawyers never get all the money. never. they work on contigency and usually take a third. and they are ego and pr driven. they would all take the case through trial. they love trials like pilots love sitting in the hotel bar in their sneakers and levis and faded golf shirts *****ing about the contract.

United would not be "removed as a plaintiff" bc Dao would be the plaintiff. United would be the defendant - both directly and vicariously.
