Talked with a buddy at JB. These were his thoughts about a merger and integration.
-Captains should be merged with Captains.
-Would likely just end up being relative seniority.
-Mentioned all the awards JB has won over the years.
-They don't really want the merger.
-Mentioned how they were the "darling of the industry".
-Pilots don't want to fly "jumbo" planes. They want to do turns domestically.
-Not desirable to be trapped in a hotel room in Europe.
-They are the #1 airline from Boston to the Caribbean.
-Our work rules are actually bad for them. They don't know how to "put a work rule in the bank".
-Their pilots make more W-2 wages.
-They would be bringing a lot of seat movement to the merger.
-Would demand that their NEOs be pay banded with our 777s and E-190s banded with our guppies.
-They have a new and growing fleet. Some of our planes are older than their airline.
-Any airplane we don't have a current active order for replacement, can't be counted toward our total, since there is no indication we will ever replace it.
-Were told by management that their time at their previous airline counted for their longevity. Can't show a physical document proving this, however. But they were told that.
-Would need a fence for their desirable MCO and BOS bases as well as their A-321's.
-Their NEO engines are 3" wider than our non-NEO Airbus engines.
-Would propose a 1-for-1 seniority list and the Arbitrators would likely just meet in the middle of the two proposals.
-Would sue if their relative seniority dropped at all, because that's all they care about.
-Said they already had an experienced attorney named "Cats" or something like that, who put this proposal together.

No we should be protecting all jetblue pilots with fences. I think 5/7 to 1 after august of 2007 is perfectly fair. Ask an alaskan pilot if they would accept relative seniority. Nope won't happen. I did hear a rumor that alaskan and jet blue were looking at it as a fire sale. Neither acquiring the airline just as orders routes and some gates. Let's hope for that.
Well most of the guys I've been talking to hired pre 2007 feel like I do. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but there are 1600 guys at JB that will fight anything other than post 2007 integration. No I would not expect integration like that with delta or American or United. Ask yourself this. Would we get it nope no friggin way. We will see how this fight turns out. I will be in it for sure along with the top 1600 guys.

All you dreamers with your ideas need to know one thing about these "mergers," they are about making a few very wealthy in the deal!
The bankers, airplane manufacturers (think pending orders), top management major shareholders and anyone else who has a financial stake in the transaction.
Here's what it's not about; a better airline or "good fit." those are only selling points when the FTC and government "approve" what's already been decided.
Let it go and remember who waters and feeds you behind closed doors (or else live in paranoia).

Yeah, well, that's just like, his buddies opinion, man.
But agreed, some delusion in there.
But then again, I've flown with plenty of guys that are completely ignorant to EVERYTHING outside their own little bubble/workspace.
Like years ago telling an RJ pilot on the JS that if he gets hired he'll probably start off as an engineer.......
But agreed, some delusion in there.
