Sea Sfo commute
Is this still a terrible commute? Starting it this Thursday, but loads currently show an incredible number of open seats. I'm sure it will fill up some, but given what I typically see 5 days out from a nonrev, it doesn't appear that bad.

ALOT of senior FA's and pilots doing this commute.
We're getting into the slow-er season where it's pretty easy, but this summer was a royal pain. I think there were less Virgin flights and Alaska canceled a lot in July-August, sometimes two a day that really taxed things. Having Delta has helped out quite a bit, but there were literally weeks of oversold flights. I went to SJC and OAK a few times when it was just impossible. Theres worse commutes I'm sure, having all mainline flights is nice. I hope they don't repeat last winter's experiment of putting a few RJ's on the route. There was one day last month where I was number 42 on the nonrev list on an already oversold flight, and 37 of the senior mama's ahead of me were hired before I was born. |

If you are a United employee you can generally get some good deals on a one way fare.
A couple months ago there was no way I was getting on, but the flight still had about 7 seats open. Bought a ticket for $80. The problem with the SEA commute, in my opinion, is how early you have to wake up to make a show in SFO. Even on the widebody, with generally more agreeable shows, you'd still have to wake up at 230am or so to make the 540am flight. I've been testing the commute for the past few months (I don't live in SEA, just spending the summer there) and this experience has taught me that I'm going to live in base. |
Ditto for buying a ticket. I got an IAH-DEN about an hour before departure for $67. There were just a couple seats for sale and about 70 SA0V42 type nonrevs.

A valuable lesson indeed. I commuted for my first 6 months and it convinced me that I never wanted to commute again. This job is exponentially better when you live in base.
