United Hiring Question

1. I heard that UA is not hiring until around Mar 2018 - can someone verify? Is it even worth it going to see UA at a career fair before around then?

2. I also heard that UA is de-emphasizing the importance of career fairs, and it's not really going to matter anymore if you show or not at a career fair. Thoughts?

We are not having classes until February 2018 for new hires that are currently in the pool. I also believe that is also the timeframe for our furloughed pilots to have to come back or separate from the Company. Only about 300 of them left. As to your second point, I do not know. I think that you should go to a career fair or two. You do not have to go broke doing that though.

Real simple.. if United is/was your dream airline, then yes- attend as many as you can.

Tomorrow we could get a new guy/gal in charge of hiring and they could do a 180 with regards to what is being done today.
No one can give you a straight 100% answer as to what attending a job fair does.
They can give you their opinion.

And as I said, it can change in a second.
I have heard we were not hiring or running classes in the Fall.
I have heard we are hiring and running classes in the Fall.
Same goes with Jan/Feb '18.

Reality is, they have to still hire and run classes to keep up with retirements. Also, just had another bid that opened up that shows a requirement of 146 new hires (vacancies). For Jan on...

End of day, what -2 stated. Don't go broke if you don't have to, but if you are there.. why not try to see United (if they are one of your top choices).

There are not currently any new-hire classes scheduled this year. There are five redoc classes (returning furloughees and those on extended leave) through December.

The calendar for 2018 has not yet been posted.

Sort of correct. The 10-year clock is running out for those furloughed in early 2008. The last furloughs occurred in late fall of 2009 so those pilots still have time remaining.

Furloughes did not begin until Oct 2008, many of those were mitigated temporary by voluntary furloughed. First pilots to hit the 10 year mark will be later 2018 early 2019.

Hiring will not start up again until 2018. I would recommend attending any event you can because you need to start networking with the recruiting team now. This way when hiring starts up again, you are a known individual. There will be a new pilot hiring manager starting on January 1, 2018.

United will be attending Aero Crew Solutions' free virtual pilot job fair on November 17th. As of today, they will ONLY be conducting a live webinar for 45 minutes. You can ask the hiring manager questions at the end via chat. If you miss the webinar, you will still be able to view it 7 days post event.

I have a below 3.0 GPA , (about 2.8) and does it going to hurt me getting a call for interview?

No need to worry about the GPA. With the grammar demonstrated above, they will never get to the GPA. :D

Probably not. You may want someone to proofread your resume for you though.
