Definitely will matter. Want to shine the light fully on the CP. Two things we don't want: 1. This CP being promoted to System CP and 2. The CP remaining in that position much longer (he's bad news for anyone) - ask the LAX guys how happy they are without him around, and he was only an Asst.
I would recommend we do what the IACP did with respect to D.L. McCoy. The IACP made it clear, no contract would be signed with that person in a position of authority and/or leadership over the CAL pilots. Essentially, we held flight ops hostage, and brought the issue to the attention of Gordon Bethune. Gordon had to make a choice, keep her, promote her, send her back to the line, or retire her. She was retired. Got a large pay out. |

Debbie didn't want her pilots sleeping on the flight deck. |

Here’s another one. Lots of lucrative CRAF flying available in run up to Iraq War. LCAL couldn’t bid on it because we didn’t have enough pilots. She had done one last furlough based her number crunching that if reserves flew more we'd need less pilots. Not only could we not bid CRAF but during the all-too-regular irregular ops there were no reserves to cover the flying. Lots of cancellations and bad publicity. No one happy. She gone.

Couple of errors in your timeline. It was Fall of 04 right after Gordon left and Keller became CEO. Remember no concessions could be demanded under Gordo’s watch as he left and tarnish his reputation. Gordon had nothing to do with Debbie’s demise (at least directly) One of the first things Kellner did was fire Debbie (to appease Jay Panerallo), the second was demand concessions or we would go CH 11. Also we were ALPA then, IACP - ALPA merger was June 2001.
I reckon it don't matter. Point is: Pilots wouldn't work for DL any more, and union was sick and tired of dealing with the daily drama. |

She's also the reason the Rolls-powered 757-200's don't have headrests on the cockpit seats.

I disagree. It was before that. 1998. As I recall, Bill Borelli said no to Debbie. There was definitely a transition period Bethune-Kellner, and Borelli (IACP), Panarello-ALPA-Pierce-ALPA.

Debbie McCoy, the only woman to ever to rise to the position of a major carrier's top management pilot, took early retirement as Executive Vice President Mark Moran, McCoy's former boss, is conducting a special audit of her department. The audit was part of a deal between Continental CEO Larry Kellner and the pilots' union that management would look into complaints about McCoy's department.” |
