"Exploded" to 16 daily flights? What percentage of the total ATL market do you think that is?

Quote: I'm aware of the Mesa announcement. Interesting nothing from UAL.
How does this have anything to do with UAL? It’s an outstation base, just like Trans States does in STL. United just cares the flight are staffed regardless of where the crews are based. Nothing here move along.

Quote: Mesa also does some flying for American out of their hubs. I'd bet that they've got a bit of Delta flying that they'll be doing. We don't serve ATL with enough flights to have feed to secondary cities in the area. If they're doing flying for United out of ATL, this would rank pretty high on the bonehead move list.
Mesa doesnt do any flying for Delta

Is Mesa's ATL base open yet? It's a better theory than Mesa flying for United out of ATL.

I hope you're not one of those people who believe that Mesa's going to feed United in ATL. All 16 flights per day, some of which are probably not mainline.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...

Why is this thread even here, shouldn’t it be in the regional section?

There is no expansion of flying for United out of ATL. Mesa does quite of bit of 175 flying from IAH and IAD to ATL. If Mesa wants a ATL base it’s primarily to benefit Mesa, not United. I have no doubt that incentivizing ASA pilots to make the jump to Mesa is the primary reason

When I was at Mesa they had a base with like 25 crews that operated 2 flights a day. This has nothing to do with us 'duking it out' with DAL.

Compared to all UAX flying in/out a couple of years ago, I'd say mainline has exploded. But please, enlighten the rest of us on what your definition of exploded is...

Kirby is poking us in the eye.

If UAL is having Mesa go into ATL in order to compete for passengers who would otherwise be flying on Delta that's just plain silly. Mesa is not a good representation of the UAL product and would be akin to sending in Peter Pan in against Godzilla. The passengers will be ****ed they had to tolerate Peter Pan's lack luster enthusiasm and will be bored of the constant excuses why Peter just didn't have enough ferry dust to bring Godzilla to his knees. Meanwhile. Godzilla enthusiasts will be enjoying spacious-comfortable jets on transcontinental routes connecting their global needs with efficiency and a high level of customer satisfaction.

Kirby doesn't care who represents UAL in competing with Delta. It's a big mistake. Need to tighten up scope. Passengers just look at the logo on the tail. They really won't know it's Mesa, they'll think it's United. Kirby won't care either.

Problem is: ATL, like EWR and other busy major airports are slot limited. If you have slots into ATL then don't waste them on RJ's. The footprint of an RJ and ATC spacing requirements are the same for an RJ or a 737. Better to use a 737, put in more pax, make more revenue, and better utilize the slot. The bonus is it would better service our network by connecting more passengers.
