Not until the Government re awards the government travel contract it gave to JetBlue, who codeshares it out to Emirates.

Its so stupid its mind blowing how can you award a contract to a company that has no intentions of flying said contract? Lets put our people on foreign airlines and send the money over seas.........I think ALPA needs to get someone to take another look at that contract.

Sounds to me more like Emirates is down-gauging. Start a new 777-300ER route, but indefinitely suspend/cancel an A380 route. Hope they choke on it.

United was awarded ATL-FRA on the same yearly government award. That’s funny because I don’t see any United widebodies in Atlanta flying to Frankfurt.

Or Delta being awarded IAD-CDG. They don’t fly it either.

The US majors years ago asked for, and received permission, to include codeshare partners for city pairs. So JetBlue being awarded IAD-DXB is following the same logic.

Yup. Only flown a US carrier once back and forth on mil orders. The rest of the time EK, Gulf Air, Alitalia, LF, AF, etc.

A) we aren’t talking about AMC charters.

B) how is Emirates any different then Lufthansa in the context of being a foreign carrier? Again, the US majors argued successfully that foreign codeshare partners should be allowed to be included in the program. It just so happens the JetBlue DC-DXB bid bit UAL in the ass.

I think UAL blaming the loss of the government contract between DC and the Middle East is just a cover. UAL went from a monopoly to having the three ME Airlines all flying nonstop. So now with four Airlines competing for passengers, combined with the drawdown of military action in the region, UAL was going to suffer, regardless of losing the government contract.

And yes I firmly believe that the ME3 are subsidized and can offer fares that result in losses, and thus unfairly gain market share. But our government doesn’t see it that way. Cheap fares is the end all be all for Americans.
