Do not board on an Econ ticket.. Period, plain and simple. No drama, no rashness needed, just politely wait until the airplane leaves then call the Crew desk so they can make new plans. The gate agents know the deal but like to play it off to see if you’ll board without them having to fix it. Don’t do it.

I suppose that one could always call the hotel desk, and have scheduling put you on the next morning's flight. You might even get paid for your extra day away from home.

yep... sounds like with the new LOA if they bump you off the flight (no E+ or better) and you are forced to stay the night its treated like a cancelled segment of your ID and you get more pay and hotel.

True, though the next flight might be in the PM. You play it however you want If you’re ever in that position.

If you elect to take the basic Econ seat then you can seek relief at a future date under 21-AA of the contract to secure a future FC seat. That is your option. The new LOA only codified what would occur if you decline basic Econ and get extended.
21-AA has been in effect since the signing of the contract.
You are NEVER required to accept less than Econ Plus. Period.

To prevent any possible confusion...
There is no such thing as a Basic Economy seat. Basic Economy (BE) is a fare class paid by revenue passengers which carriers a number of unique restrictions.
The airplanes have Economy Plus (E+) seats and Economy seats (E) in the economy cabin. The UPA provides for E+, or better, seats when deadheading.
