Wrong. Places that aren't profitable aren't worth flying to. Who cares what the average dumb person has heard of, thank goodness you're not in management!

Yeah, seriously! There are over 100 cities with a million people in China, I’m guessing most of us haven’t heard of ANY of them. I’m sure we could make money flying to one of those places. Not to mention the GUM flying that makes money every year.

I don’t think Guam has been the cash cow it used to be for a long time, that’s why they have moved airplanes out of there. Before the Yen cratered it was extremely profitable, now they also have to deal with an army of low cost airlines they never used to.

The secondary China city strategy they tried with 787 out of SF hasn’t gone too well esp once incentives ran out. I’m sure that will saddens many who must miss those precious 6 day trips.

Sorry, maybe those were bad examples but one’s own familiarity with a city does not equate to its commercial value to an airline.

We dropped Hangzhou and Xian and went from daily summer CTU to a 3X week with a well desired 00:30 departure from SF. Commercial value of a few of those Chinese cities with over a million doesn’t appear to stellar.

As for Villahermosa, I can't believe we flew there in the first place. Been a few years , but I took a Queen Air down there with some local government big wigs on a boondoggle. Not much there except oil and drug smugglers.
Not much there but oil. We don’t need no stinking high paying business travelers fed into our network.
