I've worn different versions of those at two different airlines and when the clip mechanism was properly locked, never had it slide out.

Probably bad luck.

Anyways I don't wear it anymore. The United one I got, the standard length, is too long and I'm almost 6'. Poor execution on their part.

I wore it anyways for a while and then decided to just go back to my normal tie.

I like them better than the clip ons because you can get away with not buttoning the top button... but what a pain in the ass when the zipper comes off the rails because then it just keeps sliding down.

Virgin had it right imho.

Advice from a cheap bastard>

This usually works with any zipper that's acting up.
The "clasp" part or what ever it's called that puts the squeeze on forcing the two sides together has opened up enough to not work anymore. Take a pliers and gently clamp back down on the top (where the grip attaches) and bottom side (part against your chest), go just a little at a time, if to much it will freeze up and you'll need a screwdriver to open it up some.

A tie is always great to catch crew meal crumbs you don't want on your shirt.

Or, that overflowing entre with red sauce, that spills over and rubs on your shirt. A tie will save your shirt.

Also, if you want to wear a seasonal tie, currently forbidden by the company, you will get many compliments from our customers. Just ask Larry, the SFO chief pilot, which ties are approved.

My ties have saved me from MANY coffee stains on my shirts. Also, in a pinch, I think my has collected enough real food that I could eat it to survive.
