How true: Lyons also noted that the A321LR’s cruise speed of Mach 0.78 is “relatively low … compared to some of its competitors” such as the Mach 0.85-cruising Boeing 787, possibly producing a negative “knock-on effect for utilization on some of the shorter-length but still long-haul sectors” operated by the A321LR.

A 757 can cross the tracks at .80 and make gas. Nothing can compare to a 757, other than a 757. No Guppy or Fifi.

A: They couldn't figure out how to make them leak. |
if Boeing dithers around much more, someone will come up with a reengine plan for the 757. Probably FedEx. They already have new cockpits, if they got new engines, then the business case for Boeing's 797 goes out the window. So does the A321NEO's.
The question would be how much life is left in the airframes vs. heavy MX and engine change costs. |
The B707-727-737-757 skinny fuselage is just too narrow for todays jumbo humans. Cut that jig up. Toss it.
Hell, even the A318-319-320-321 fuselage is too small. Pitch it as well. Ten bucks says that the Connie, the Convair and the F27 all had more comfortable seats than todays airliners. Todays composite's ought to enable a wider fuselage at an attractive weight which will.... Oh hell, I must be high. I know it will never happen. |
One Toke over the line Sweet Jesus.
