Interesting.

Great news! Kirby spoke a few months ago about this stating “we are not going to let Lufthansa push us around in our hubs anymore “. Happy to see us adding another flight from a UA hub to the Star Alliance EU hub.

Either Kirby doesn't know about the Lufthansa JV or he was simply playing to the audience.

(I'm gonna assume he's heard about the JV.)

Yeah, it was part of a conversation after a question was asked on his thoughts about seeing Lufthansa A380s and 747s (often both) in our hubs daily while we either don’t serve (LA/DEN) or under serve (767-300) our large hubs to Germany. He alluded to Lufthansa’s bullying other Star carriers into letting “them” do the heavy lifting when we would like to use “our metal” on more and more routes. Was he appeasing the audience? Sure. Did he do what he said he was going to do? Yes.

I saw the loads from DEN to LHR last summer were excellent. Maybe if the FRA route does well they will open up a base. If that happens, folks in SFO are going to need earplugs to protect against the tremendously loud vacuuming noise as DEN WB commuters bid back home.

It is almost comical to sit in SFO ops and listen to the conversations at the various briefing tables. “So, where do you live? I’m closer to the springs but blah blah blah. Oh, I’m on the West side and blah blah blah”. Both from Denver and skip right past the commute discussions and right to Denver specific neighborhood discussion. If you didn’t recognize some of the neighborhood jargon, you’d assume they were talking about the Bay Area but being SFO, they are naturally discussing Denver. Makes complete sense....right? It is what it is. Indeed welcome news for many WB pilots commuting from Denver.

Why is it comical?

Almost as comical as listening to some of these military guys drone on and on about their squadron, fleet, boat...whatever. “There I was, one turnin’ one burnin’ blah blah blah........(insert story of your choice here).” Thanks for your service to this country. But as a former regional guy, I really can’t relate to your experiences and honestly don’t care.
