The junior 787 FO (SFO) is 13,009.

The junior pilot systemwide is 13,419.

UAL hired 897 pilots off the street in 2019 as of 12/09/19.

Flight Operations is pleased to announce that new-hire classes will occur on February 18 and 25, and on March 3, for approximately 20 pilots each.

Here is the current schedule of announced upcoming classes:

-January 14
-January 21
-February 18
-February 25
-March 3

Smaller classes, but happening every week, so not sure if this is an indication of Max issues reducing total hiring or if they just realize that 40 per class was causing too much of a delay between new hire class and aircraft specific training.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Any idea when they will release these dates to the poolies? I would assume soon, right?

Going thru the training house now. The Head of DENTC said that the class size is reduced because of the MAX. Once that gets online, then a majority of the class drops will be 737s and the class numbers will go back up.

You forgot to mention perma-reserve.

Yes, to put the above numbers in perspective.

13009 is the junior 787 FO in SFO
10742 is 90% down the list
9189 is 80% down the list

At 80% you will usually hold a line. This may not be true in situations where the flying is low for a month or two at your Base, but the seasonal fluctuation in flying hours is pretty minimal in the 787 world.

At 90% you might occasionally hold a line. If you waive everything you are allowed to waive in PBS or if you have some know absences (vacation, training, etc) that make it so 1 or 2 trips outside those absences is all you would need to make a legal line and those couple of trips weren't enough to make a legal line for somebody senior to you that was available for the full month.

So, with the great movement we have going on right now, you might get on the airplane quickly. But, even with that movement, you would be on reserve for awhile. (prob a few years) So, living in the general area of SFO would make your life much more enjoyable.

Just about a year on property, I've been a line holder for all but 3 months. Currently sitting at 50% so no threat of reserve any more even in slower months. I am choosing to stay on narrowbody and enjoy my relative seniority rather than base transfer IAH even know it is only a 2.5 hour drive from my house. Having a schedule that is commutable on the first day and sometimes on last day is nice, and possibly with a little more seniority ill get both.

Things are moving fast and once MAX opens back up it'll speed up even more.

Took a peek at the BI website today. Seems they’re offering:

Airbus:
SFO
EWR

737:
SFO
EWR
LAX

756 (yay!):
SFO
EWR
LAX

No numbers yet though.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the max. I was really surprised when we took it off of the schedule until June, now I wonder if they’ll have to push the date back even further. The 737 may be very over staffed for a long time.
