So let’s see...
Standby passes are for immediate family. Spouse, kids under 26. Unlimited.
Employee gets 8 vacation passes a year. Basically free first class. (which is bs IMO, another airline doesn’t do that, but that’s beside the point) Top of nonrev list, until someone senior uses one too.
Buddy passes, you get 24. You have to register your buddy online. I suspect extended family is a cheaper cost than a friend’s cost. From what I’ve noticed that is. YMMV, also bottom of list.
ID90/ZED for immediate family. Link to it on travel page.
Example...your friends are not getting an ID90 on Lufthansa this summer. But they can ride on UA.

ZED is for travel on airlines other than United?

Don’t forget: Buddy passes aren’t free. They still pay the taxes. It’s an awful deal as you’re paying to be an SA-8 unless they travel with the employee. I only give buddy passes to people whose friendships I don’t value.
