Having trouble with listing for SW JS
I am. Getting message: General availability error. Failed to call 3rd party backend system.
Anyone else? Flights are full On UA for me, so it’s this or commuter clause today. SW has open seats for me too. |
I just tried to sign up for the SWA jumpseat on EZCCS, and it will not work. I didn't get a message.
The screen either locks up with the "sunset" background from the website, or it goes blank. |
After a long time, it gave me the same message you had.
I just tried another airline, and got a different error... but still could not list. |
I created a SWA listing last night through EZCCS.
I initially got the same error as you but then realized that I had failed to change "ORD" to "MDW". Once I did, it worked. |
What's interesting is that a UAL flight attendant can just show a crew badge and get on, but we have to be checked through CASS, so our FA can get on if there are seats in the back, but we can't.
We have a reciprocal jumpseat agreement with SW, but its much harder to get listed with all their tech issues, and they can just walk up to our flights and get on without a problem. |

Buuuuuut, all the details/specifics/the how and the why aside, I’ve had their pilots take an FA seat so I could get the cockpit JS, so there’s that. And, as an OAL you can go down FIRST, get your bag taken care of and grab an aisle seat, if they need you in front they’ll simply pull you up. Whereas when I was offline, and what I watch now with OAL (especially on the 73), JS’er gets cleared next to last in the boarding process, one of the last down, sorry, overheads are full, gotta check your bag, etc. As mentioned, NO, WE DONT have to go through the rampant thread drift of the how and the why they can and we we can’t, but I’m JUST SAYIN’..... |
I’ve been told we cannot board first anymore on SWA.
Our pilots regularly go out of their way to make sure offline pilots get bags on. I put them in the cockpit (737) as my roll behind fits next to me where the ship set used to be. This online listing crap has to stop. |

Now, I wouldn't go far as to say "regularly", I also wouldn't say "out of their way" either. But good for you for doing such, need more. |
You can board first if you are listed as a flight deck jumpseat. If they give you a boarding number because of seats in the back you're supposed to board in your group number. If I see anyone I bring them down and make sure they get settled regardless.

This online listing crap has to stop. that’s not correct... all jumpseaters are encouraged to come down first. Stow you’re bag, take an aisle seat and we we call you if needed, nothing has changed.... unless you have a difficult gate agent, but we will do anything to help you get on, most guys will walk to the top and enquire about jumpseaters |
Thanks for the info. Good to know. Always been treated well by the pilots. No longer commuting but still try and take care of commuters on my end as one can never say never when it comes to commuting again in this career.

The trick to pre board is to volunteer to take a wheelchair down. This works even if you are sitting in the back. They don’t have the ”special squad” we have at UA to move their wheel chairs around, so they get gate agents and a few volunteer pilots to do it. CAUTION - there’s always a liability involved whenever you touch a wheelchair (which is something I was taught early at CAL) as you have no protection if something goes wrong. This is why you don’t see pilots at UAL help with a wheel chair. But, you can roll the dice at SWA to get down early. I’ve done this myself a few times.

I Jumpseated on SWA a few days ago.
EZCCS would not work for listing. However I was able to do it on my laptop via the link on Flying Together. Looks like it still will not work on EZCCS. I pre-boarded... always have. Never been a problem. Other than EZCCS failing, I find the process quick and easy. |

As a JSer, you are REQUIRED to preboard if possible according to the SWA flight ops and ground ops manual. This is to check in with the captain and stow your stuff. If any of you are denied or given any trouble about preboarding, please inform the captain so that he can follow up. No wheelchair pushing required, although I am sure the ops agents appreciate it. I don't think you would be covered if a wheelchair pax got injured while you are pushing. |
