Hey all, Hoping someone can answer this for me.
Plan is to fly SFO to SYD on the 8th. There are only 50 or so pax booked but over 200 seats are held..... This leads to -15 seats available....
Are these held seats getting opened up for non revvers or is there some Australian government limit imposed? Seems a bit odd.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah you want to check the entry requirements... 99% sure you will be held for 14 days if allowed in... Mates wife and boy returned to J-land thru SYD from NZ and could not leave the transit lounge for a nearby hotel... Good luck...

Yea unless you are a dual citizen I wouldn’t head to Australia. You can request permission but doubt anyone wanting to go for the purpose of tourism would be granted an exemption. Here are their entry restrictions...
https://au.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/
The Australian government is restricting Australian citizens and permanent residents from traveling overseas, with some exceptions. Dual U.S.-Australian citizens and U.S. citizen permanent residents of Australia are not exempt from this rule and may be prevented from boarding flights if they do not meet the exception guidelines. Individuals may request exceptions to the exit restrictions at this link.
Foreign nationals transiting through Australia to another country don’t need to apply for an exemption to travel restrictions if they are booked to depart on a connecting flight from the same airport within eight hours and they are not going to leave the airport. If you plan to leave the airport before boarding your connecting flight, or if you will be at the airport for longer than eight hours, you will need to apply for a travel exemption. You can apply online.
State and local authorities are levying fines on individuals not following quarantine and self-isolation guidelines.

- The states of New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory do not have currently have entry restrictions, but U.S. citizens should read and follow the public guidelines wherever they live or visit.
Entry and Exit Requirements:
Australia announced a travel ban on all non-residents and non-Australian citizens entering Australia that went into effect on Friday, March 20, 2020. Individuals may request exceptions to the entry restrictions at this link. The Australian government is restricting Australian citizens and permanent residents from traveling overseas, with some exceptions. Quarantine Information:
All travelers entering Australia from overseas will be quarantinedin a hotel or designated facility for 14 days. Travelers are required to undertake their mandatory 14-day self-isolation at their port of entry. Travelers will be transported directly to designated facilities as determined by the relevant state and territory government (for example, a hotel) after appropriate immigration, customs and enhanced health checks.State and local authorities are levying fines on individuals not following quarantine and self-isolation guidelines.

So why is United flying at all? Surely that isn't profitable. (The cargo makes up the rest hey?)
Right now the only seat available is about a week out and is $3333. Any idea if I can jumpseat...to avoid the 50 pax limit?
Start back in Aust mil on 31 Jul. (Dual citizen)
