Thank you. You just about nailed it.

While I was never a fan (two tours, 5000+ hours) I never minded new airframes. While jammed into its incredibly uncomfortable cockpit I had plenty of opportunities to sniff all of its orifices. I found each and extremely malodorous. I guess if it's your first jet you might think it's pretty skookum. To each their own I suppose. Oh, and the pax prefer the Bus, but who cares what they think?

You left out the part about those who are always willing to work for less, each and every time something rolls out of Rosemont.

I was flying one the other day. Full to SFO from IAH. Mid 30s at cost index of 10. .79 Mach burning 2,200 per side for the first hour and down to about 2,000 per side per hour the last hour. Like it or hate it, that’s why we are ordering many more. Used Airbus aircraft probably being sold as they arrive. I’m doubtful the 321XLR even hits the property so 757-200RR and 757-300s not going anywhere until the new Boeing middle of the market arrives and used 767-300s purchased later this year. I hate to see them go but I’m guessing the 767-400s are going to come out of the desert to be prepped for sale. I could be (and have been) wrong about all of this but that’s my prognosis.
Making a deal with Boeing at this time combined with our restraint both from our MEC and the company execs with regard to the MAX probably bodes well long term for being the (or one of the) launch customer for the next Boeing product.

True, but they are being sold to a leasing company for lease-back to UAL.

Interesting that you mentioned that about PAX preferring the bus, bc I would agree, except that the company just said that the MAX is their highest scoring in their handy-dandy surveys. If you’re into that sort of thing.

But this is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta “what-have-yous.”

This whole business... strikes and gutters, ups and downs...

:)

What customers prefer only becomes an issue when they vote with their feet and affect the bottom line. They may rather fly on an Airbus, but they will purchase a ticket on a 737 if it’s cheaper. The biggest issue for any airline is customer service and not a Ford/Chevy debate. Those in charge of aircraft purchasing have determined that they can make more money with the Max rather than the Neo. The 737 is an outdated turd, but the Max sips fuel just like the Neo would, and it is going to be the major fleet type in our domestic market for a long time.

I think our pax prefer to get to their destination on time, not go back to the gate for maintenance on an old dilapidated bus.

I was able to not take “airplane sides” in my post, and also added two Big Lebowski quotes at the end, and no one has noticed the quotes and instead focused on their airplane of choice :D
