The bus fleet is aging, pretty stagnant, other than a distant 321 order, not much of a chance of changing that. The 756 is approaching the end of it’s service as well. As much as many would have preferred that the company picked the NEO, the dream guppy is the NB future at United.

Just wait until we do augmented trips on the Max.

augmented to where?

augmentation requires at a minimum a class 3 seat (the Guam setup). A domestic first class seat doesn’t qualify. The max 10 so far is the only version rumored to get lie flat seats (intended for the transcon market to replace the 757’s) and it’s range would only allow UK and Ireland flights and possibly LIS. Any of the smaller Max variants would not have the passenger load most likely to justify such a small sub fleet outfitted.

the 321xlr we have ordered are for the 757 international replacements

Not to say you shouldn’t have your own personal preference for which fleet you want to be on as a new hire. Just a friendly reminder that those are probably some thoughts that shouldn’t be broadcasted. It just kind of comes off like showing up to a jam packed flight on Christmas where you’re number 1 on the list with 2 open seats and 50 non revs below you and voicing your concern in the boarding area that you hope you don’t get a center seat. You’re more than entitled to your own bias, but it might be best to just be thrilled you’re in and you’re gonna have a great time no matter what seat you get.

Don’t mean to bust your balls buddy. Just a friendly reminder that you got a lot of good stuff coming your way and to not sweat an initial class assignment.

A lot of really good responses have come from this discussion, and I don’t disagree big picture, so I probably should just let it go, but since this is APC:

If a pilot comes from Spirit or another similar ULCC are they allowed to broadcast “I hope I get an Airbus” in your world?

On the scale of things that matter....dis don't matter no. Better than getting a skyhawk on the bid.

And it’s a POS that pays the bills.

idk I actually like the guppy, I’ve flown the 756 fleet as well. While I like the 756 as an airplane more, the benefits that come with the 737 FAR outweigh any uncomfortableness.

1 in 10 landings I really miss the 757, but the rest of the time the plane is fine. The (slightly) louder cockpit has spawned a culture of wearing headsets, which not only reduces fatigue, hearing loss, but also makes it easier to tactfully indicate when you’re not in mood to talk.

if the trips were similar between fleets, it would be a harder choice, but as the schedules are built today... in most bases on the bus (unless
you are top 15%) you generally have to choose between productive trips and good report/release times. Most guppy dudes/gals are getting decent trips by 50%

I’m sure there are examples to the contrary, but they are exceptions, not the rule.

and to reiterate, the plane isn’t that bad.

that would be in violation of the UPA. So either they outfit a first class seat like the few Guam birds for the island hopper, or it’s one of the lie flats.

5-J-1-i For 737, A320/319/321, and 757-300 aircraft, for 757-200 aircraft equipped with lie-flat seats but not covered under Section 5-J-1-h, and for 757-200 aircraft not equipped with lie-flat seats, one (1) premium seat grouping in the highest class of service.

5-J-4 Seats comparable to Economy or Economy Plus are not acceptable for crew rest.
