Why would someone bid a trip that they know will be dropped without pay? Only to be left in a position where they are hoping there’s an open trip to make up the loss.

In addition to the premium pay pickup possibility, someone might do this to get a holiday off that they are too junior to get off in the bid. i.e. Pickup a vax-required trip over Christmas knowing that it'll be dropped and you'll be off. By blocking those days it makes it more difficult to replace the lost pay.

My bidding strategy as an unvaxed pilot is to bid desirable trips L- and above, using completion mode to roll the dice on undesirable trips vs. DNF days. If I really care about particular days off I'll have to tag those undesirable trips as L-- in an attempt to avoid completion mode. The blocker for pickups probably isn't DNF, but FAR 117's 100 in 672.
Not happy with the LOA but I think I can live with it. If it sucks I can always revisit the vaccine with 20/20 hindsight. 13 hours of pay would be nice but just like I don't have to pick up every 200% transcon in open-time, I don't have to knee jerk an irreversible non-fda approved medication either. I downloaded some VAERS data, but having no experience weighing it I put it down. IMHO it's worth 13 hours of pay to let the experts run the numbers and put their stamp of approval on the drug. I've never had so much peer pressure to take a drug, honestly. Also, getting paid to do something good for myself sounds too good to be true. You know how that figures. |

More importantly the company can put AV days on to prevent exactly this.
