Quote: agreed 100%. I was thrilled at my previous employer when I met guys who weren’t even a CFI and went right into a high performance jet. The “pay your dues blah blah blah” is so self serving. Everyone of us would have skipped the sh!t fest had we could have so why not be happy for those who don’t have to endure it?
I just flew with an F/O who went straight from CFI with very little total time and almost no multi time to right seat at mainline. A bit of “sh!t fest” time would have done him good. Cheese and rice he’s green.

Ah I see I don’t disagree that experience is gold I think was was referring more to $hit pay, furloughs, shady operators that many see as a “right of passage”. I’m quite surprised to hear of a CFI-to-mainline and am curious about how they even got looked at. One of the best guys I flew with got his ratings, flew sea planes for about 3 months, the. Got hired on and he was sharper and better stick than most of the mil, regional, or retired mainline I flew with.

You shouldn’t be surprised. These are the kids who were part of the experimental Luftansha flight academy CFI group that United hired in 2019. There are a few floating around United now.

Don’t get me wrong he was a nice guy and he did okay but the green really started showing itself on about day three when the trip started getting a bit more real.

I've flown with 2 and was in js for another. 2 out of 3 were really bad. The other was fine.

Energy management was non existent.

It is absolutely criminal that these people are not bid restricted to the right seat for a minimum of 5 years. When one of these upgrades to captain within the year we are going to have issues!

We're seeing similar stuff in the 135 side. Smaller plane, but still a 2 pilot jet. We have had a few moments where the Captain is suddenly flying a 2 pilot jet solo, because the green FO froze up.

Well, you would really have no reason to look at it unless you were heading to indoc.
