Default UAX continues to shrink

Speaking during the company’s fourth-quarter 2021 earnings call on 20 January, United chief commercial officer Andrew Nocella said the airline has cut service to 20 cities so far and that more route reductions are coming

We know the impact on these communities, we alert them ahead of time, we know it’s a big deal for them,” he says. “However, we are facing a pilot shortage on our regional aircraft – not on our mainline aircraft – and we expect that shortage to continue for a while, including for the rest of 2022.”“We do expect there will be a few more communities that we will have to remove from the network. We are still working out those details,” Nocella adds. He says United has “a lot of aircraft that we will under-utilise for the foreseeable future”.

Executives say the problem is “not unexpected” and will continue for “for the next year or two”

Of course its not unexpected, they and every other major is the reason for the regional shortage.

Hopefully you're lucky enough to picked up by one of them before some of the regionals fold up or get consolidated.

It's gonna be interesting to see who makes the first move and how bold of a move it is.

Barring an easing of the 1500 hour rule, it the 1000 hour upgrade rule, it’s difficult to picture regional flying recovering that quickly

You may be right. Time will tell. A lot will depend upon how many FOs are upgrade eligible as captains fly off to the majors. If an insufficient number, it becomes a queuing problem.

lol no I meant it was an investor call jedi mind trick. Regional flying will return to normal in future. Soon enough my words don’t scare you, far enough away you can’t really assess whether it’s true
