Narrow Body - Global Reserve

With the 73 Max working to KEF next month we have our first true NB Global Reserve. Did a quick search of the UPA as to what constitutes Global Reserve. Means reserve in a category (Base/equipment/seat BES) that has one or more global trips. Global Trip means a Trip that contains one or more Global Flight. Global Flight is not a Basic Flight. A Basic Flight operates within the fifty United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, that portion of S America north of 15 degrees South latitude, Bermuda, and the Caribbean islands.

So it seems that Newark and Dulles are prime for NB global reserve in the not too distant future. That will make reserve commuting suck even more. Bet that keeps the early upgrades and unfilled Capt vacancies coming too as senior FOs wait for line holder percentages. Wonder who wins and losses with new Global reserve NB categories on East coast.

Great example of something in a contract that many will ignore or justify by the old "that'll never effect me" logic coming home to roost to many who never saw it coming.

This is definitely something to watch for, but it is also imperitive that you understand the rules. The crew desk can only move an RDO for a Global Reserve to cover a Global Trip!!! So, just because you are on reserve and have RDOs now, doesn't mean the crew desk can move them whenever they want. Not sure if they are going to make EWR and DCA Global or not (getting the bases Atlantic Quald could be quite the challenge) but whichever base gets the flying make sure you understand when they can move your RDO and when they cannot.

Yep, sorry for the confusion think I was remembering pre-pandemic, thought they had plans for the Max to go to KEF, but yes, CLE crews coming through EWR to the Azores (PDL) in June.

Did not know about the Global Reserve limitations for crew scheduling thanks

With the arrival of the NEO and XLR, ALL fleets will be global. Better have a clear understanding of what you vote for.

Not to nitpick but the NEO and XLR are the same thing. Can’t have the XLR without the NEO engines.

Feel free to nitpick, as you are wrong. It goes beyond engine selection.
