Sadly, those courtesies can be all over the place.
Some other places, it's simply a standard/accepted practice. Fair enough. Policy or not y’all are all welcome to come down early on my jet. |
When I was UAX I found that it just depended on the gate agent. I'd always ask politely but every once in a while I would be told no.

That's just an example. So I wasn't trying to be condescending. On a bigger picture, reading some of these posts cracks me up as it relates to the culture. Many beat their chest about bringing the UAX pilots over and how they belong at mainline, RIGHTFULLY SO. "But as long as they're still RJ trash, screw em, let em board last!!!!!"

It was truly hit or miss. Some very accommodating. Others, you'd think you just asked to see their tax returns and hand over their bank account info. |

Thank you for that, and I was UAX myself with countless occasions where I was treated substandard by agents. I don't mean to say I SHOULD HAVE been pre-boarded, I mean times where I was just disrespected. As an example, on a DH and walk up to gate, agent just basically screams at me "there's already a JS'er so I can't list you!" Well, if they would have just shut up and gave me a chance to speak......

Certainly didn’t feel any condescension and honestly that was the point of my post - trying to figure out if I was the crazy one. Definitely had the occasional gate agent like that and I smile and say thank you and try to stand there in front of all the passengers who saw it and not look embarrassed. But they’ve specifically said “that’s not the policy anymore” a few times so wondering if an email went out or something. Anyway the back and forth about flying a regional jet with mainline pax is a tale as old as time. I just like the comradery that comes with this industry and it just feels like so much of that is kind of going away. Maybe it’s just me. Thanks for the perspective. |

Seriously, that would have been a handy detail to mention in your OP. Sorry but you’re not entitled to pre board on mainline metal.
Rog. I’ll check my privilege and spread the word. |

When I was able to self book PS it was boarding group 3. Sometimes they’d let me pre board sometimes they would insist that I wait for my boarding group. That’s was as a United flight instructor/ pilot with 20 years seniority. You’re not special.

How is he not special? He flys United passengers and provides the same level of service, if he can’t get any courtesy then who can? It’s no wonder there’s a pilot shortage and they have to form academies to find warm bodies. To the op if you feel embarrassed by the culture there, I’d go some place where you are truly appreciated.
Nah he’s right. I think it’s the massive paychecks going to my head. I’m going to punish myself by bypassing my kcm privileges for a few months… take my work shoes off with the peasants and commoners, might shrink my big head a little bit. A big dose of humble pie would do us RTers some good. |
