United hires FTIs (Fleet Technical Instructors). These are non-pilot positions and they teach systems for week 1 of fleet training. I’d avoid this if you want to actually be a line pilot.

PI’s (Pilot Instructors) teach the rest of aircraft specific training. These are seniority list line pilots. Assuming this is what you’re referring to, you need to get hired and be on property for a year (I believe) to be eligible.

technically, be off probation (which could be more than a year depending on wacky bid period or if your IOE is delayed and you are late getting the 165 days worked)

TK management is directly soliciting new hires about to get off probation to recruit as instructors. Free time off schedule…PS travel for pilot+1 to Denver…TK tour etc.

Can you please confirm-
They PS not only you (which I understand.. it's technically Company Business) but also one "significant" other?

Thanks

Confirmed. I got the same offer in CCS (while still doing new hire IOE...)

One of my FTI's came from a regional and my understanding was he was in a form of Aviate. I think once he hit X years of service in the sims he would get a CJO.

He can become a FTI via Aviate, but I believe it is a 3 year commitment before CJO now….

I know a few of them that took this track (one of them told me it used to be 2 years and it went up to 3).

which is never, FTIs don’t instruct in the sims.

Not true, they don’t instruct in sims with the motion on. But they use sims all the time.

And the company is going to somehow track this "all the time" and provide credit of some sort for FTI pilot applicants? FTI's teach aircraft systems, correct? Do they teach flying (flows, flying technique, SOP, normals, or non-normals)?

TA1 got shot down, and ALPA reps are getting recalled because, among other things, they gave up scope by using former UAL pilots. These proposed non-seniority list pilots have a big difference between FTIs in that they WERE once on the seniority list. As a group we have spoken loud and clear - NO SCOPE GIVES. I know several FTIs and they are great guys, BUT, when they cross the line and start teaching pilot stuff, as pilots we have a responsibility to say something and possibly file a grievance. FTIs teaching pilot stuff IS a scope violation.

Everyone wants all the gouge and wants to make time at TK as painless as possible, additionally nobody (ok few) want to rock the boat. However, either we're serious about scope or we're not. If FTIs are teaching anything other than systems in the simulator, you've gotta say something.

So anyway, the FTI pathway for Aviate is spelled out in the Aviate Program Guide for those interested.
