ALPA MEC Meeting
Your officers recently concluded two weeks of meetings starting with a four-day MEC meeting and then the biennial ALPA Board of Directors meeting held in Las Vegas.
The MEC meeting contained all the updated committee reports, including Uniform, Scope & Alliance, and Safety.
The MEC also received a very detailed update on the current status of negotiating from our Negotiating Committee and their subject-matter experts. We still maintain the November 1 deadline for the Company to pass across a comprehensive proposal that addresses all the shortcomings of the original Tumi TA, comprehensive additions to quality of life, work rules, and reserve scheduling, among others.
We also await to see the Company compensation package to include retroactive, current, and prospective compensation, and deferred (retirement) compensation changes.
Your MEC was very productive and proactive in turning the page to march forward in the goal of negotiating an agreement that fulfills the goals set forward by the line pilots of United. Your union passed across a comprehensive and aggressive proposal to the Company. Management knows the bar they need to reach to complete a deal. The Company knows the is clock ticking toward November 1!
Board of Directors Meeting
The BOD meeting concluded Thursday. A new strategic plan was adopted, along with many changes to ALPA structure and adoption of new rules for how the Canadian carriers are represented and funded. New rules were also adopted in terms of presidential retirement compensation, which will save the Association hundreds of thousands of dollars going forward.
Election Results
I am very proud to say that this MEC coalesced at the 11th hour in a unified manor to take the day and elect Capt. Wendy Morse (C-12) to the office of first vice president of ALPA. This was a successful BOD in terms of amending the structure and rules. The complete slate of officers that were elected will be a huge benefit to the United pilots and all of ALPA moving forward.
Capt. Jason Ambrosi (DAL)
President
Capt. Wendy Morse (UAL)
First Vice President
Capt. Wes Clapper (JBU)
Vice President-Finance/Treasurer
F/O Tyler Hawkins (FFT)
Vice President-Administration/Secretary
Capt. Bill Neveu was reelected unanimously as the UAL executive vice president.
Todd, Steve, and I look forward to scheduling our first local council meeting since taking office. We have decided to hold off until after November 1 to see what type of meeting this will be. The type of meeting is dependent solely by the proposal the Company decides to make to their pilots.
We are in the process of changing the holiday/retirement party date and format. We will instead be moving to a new format of hosting a retirement dinner for those departing the pattern during the year. We are looking at dates in late April 2023. Stand by for more.
