Guys towards the middle might have a significantly different result. At the bottom they’re all about the same with the same movement on both fleets. Really can’t go wrong on either plane, progression-wise.

To touch on this for the OP, im probably junior middle of the pack with maybe a 5 or 6 percent difference in relative seniority between Bus vs 73 and stalking the awards every month my 73 peers get more days off and better overnights IMO. Everyone within 15 numbers of me, junior and senior, got Christmas off on the 73 whereas on the Bus we're all working 6 days straight over the holiday. With that said, if I wasn't a commuter like yourself I'd probably stay on the bus and jump to a widebody once close to the gline. I'll miss the tray table

Bus: more comfortable, more advanced with “not as cool” destinations, more legs per day, smaller bases and slightly more seniority. Also it has some small bases, ie LAX which means less flexibility to pick up or trade trips. The new 321’s will delivered starting around 2024 which can mean some awesome Europe routes, but that’s likely going to go senior.

73: old school, less comfortable (although more comfortable than my last plane), but more junior, faster movement, more growth, gigantic bases with island destinations.

Choose wisely!

I was on a bus prior to UA but got a 737 in training. A few (many) more switches to forget on a day to day basis and more head hitters in the cockpit for sure. I'm not off ioe yet and already almost 90% in my base.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. All great points to consider between the two fleets. I will be aiming to be ORD based at the end of the day, and it looks like I'll have to initially commute to IAH if I want the 73, whereas I could probably get ORD on the Bus right away. I'm mid-pack in my class, so feel like my chances of holding NB are good. With that being said, does a base transfer seem likely with the new vacancy? I'm not trying to commute if I don't have to by taking the bus.

bus is more advanced only if you look up. If you look down you will probably be looking for the 8 track slot compared to the max.

When you looking down don't notice the yoke, the giant trim wheel, or all the idiot lights located throughout...

When I look at any cockpit all I see is a paycheck and a schedule. I’m glad we have the 320 and 756 fleets because it buys me artificial seniority from people senior to me who put their preference on what they fly or where they layover. I never fly red eyes, trips are always commutable both ends, and usually only fly 2 legs per day. The 320 is definitely a more comfortable cockpit, but I couldn’t bid the same type of trips. Considering that the pay is basically the same, I’ll take the junk jet with the better schedule.

At least you can see the screen taking off into the sun. Our buses are very dangerous in that regard. New ones and Chinese are different story.

Out of curiosity, how’s the performance on the max. Yesterday I was trying to catch a flight from EWR to BOG but they blocked 10 seats due to weight. TIA

You will get a line faster on the bus in SFO than the guppy. The gline difference is substantial. I’ve been able to hold a line since day 1 versus my classmates who are still on reserve.
