Quote: Aren't the firm orders essentially replacements? The options are just options. I wouldn't bet the farm unless you're sitting in it.

100 will replace 19 777As and 36 767-3 and at 2030 another 16 764….
growth will be 30 of them or so

Another 100 of options will be to replace 54 777B models and I think some will be converted to 45 777x models and we will never see the A350s

I disagree. SFO is a fortress hub for UAL and generally very junior. You will have many more options at UAL>WN in SFO

So ... 31.0 or 31.9. It's sorta insane to ask that but with the hiring that is ongoing and the 750 ish pilots who will hit the seniority list between now and your presumptive class date ... it might matter.

But frankly, I'd recommend the jump purely for better/stronger hub presence in SFO.

I only say this because I live close to the OAK base for WN, but completely agree with you opportunity-wise.

Funny you mention it, assuming i'm offered a class date in the next day or two it will probably be for some time in May, which puts me a month short of 32.

I’m considering making the jump from ULLC to Ua. I have 20 years left but I’m over 50% here. I feel like it’s still worth it even knowing I’ll never be really senior. Am I crazy for leaving or crazy to stay.

Not enough info to say. However, what you should do is apply, interview, get a CJO, then you have to determine whether to stay or go. Right now you just need to decide to take the first step, that is a no-brainer!

Quote: Howdy folks,

Had the interview earlier this week, currently working some beer/napkin math on what seniority might look like if i'm given the offer and make the jump over from WN.

I'm interested in your opinions on someone who is 31 making that switch, currently just a few months on property with WN. I live in the Bay Area, so domicile works great at either airline regardless.

Tango Mike!
Do you want to fly a 737 for for the next 33 years?

It’s a big world out there and UAL let’s you move around the fleets to suit phase of life.

Quote: I’ve done the same… I’m 34 and would be about 1400 at the end. I’d hit 5k overall around 2043, which is junior 78/77 CA. My guess is you’d be around 800-1000.

I’m a 5.5 year FedEx guy.
Are you out of your mind? Couldn’t you be a 777 capt like now? Why come to the bottom of United and wait 20 years for the same thing?

Slightly over 15K pilots on property now.

Retirements by June 1 of

2033 - ~6K
2043 - ~10k
2053 - 13,500
2056 - 14,200

Figure approx 500 hired between now and then. Probably 1/3 will retire after you turn 64. So maybe you're sitting around 2000 at age 62 and a little over 1000 at retirement. WB CA on Reserve in SFO would be possible in your early 50's if current numbers hold.

I don't see any seniority reason not to make that move if UA is what you want.

I recently flew with a guy hired July 2021, he is 78% companywide.

Serious consideration…won’t cargo flying be autonomous in the nearish future? Keep hearing about that a lot.
