Pins don't really matter, other than you might be mistaken for a "slick tie". I'd probably at least have some union swag on my bag.

Management doesn't care about pins, but some of them do actually care about bright colored swag during contract negotiations. I don't understand why they care but they do so personally I'd participate in that at least while the contract is open.

I also had many, many conversations with pax and quick nods from folks about a lanyard, or bag tag. They notice. Fellow Pilots notice. And most importantly, Management notices.

Finally, the bright lime green was very, very visible. Everywhere. It took a couple weeks, but the sea of green, especially in the summer/jacket-free months was a constant reminder to the internal audience to stay unified. It WORKED. Bag tags too. There were even a decent number of guys who bought lime green watch bands, zipper pulls, etc from Amazon. Lime Green was everywhere. And everyone noticed. The brighter/contrast-ier the better (which was also a FOM violation, lol)

When you walk into the lounge, and nearly every single pilot is wearing lime green, and the line of luggage works bags all have a lime green bag tag on them, you know the group is standing together.

!
The Delta Pilot Group showed all of ALPA how to get the contract we deserve. Yet a bunch of you refuse to learn from and model the “how”. One of the hows is a visible symbol of unity from lanyards and bag tags. The company is always going to aim for 50.1% vote. That gives the company the win. Don’t be part of the group that settles for less than we could get otherwise. And wearing a lanyard is just so ridiculously easy that I can’t believe anyone would resist doing it!

Thanks everyone for the replies. A lot of what you all say make sense. I appreciate the input from the Delta pilots.

I just put my lanyard in my bag so I could wear it when I go back to work. APC has changed my mind! It’s a miracle!

Fair warning DO NOT keep it on your work iPad. We have had numerous warnings about this in years past. I don't remember the exact logic, something along the lines of it being a discriminatory item on company property. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, their ipad their rules.

Bottom line, keep it on your phone. Minor inconvenience of a smaller screen, not worth jeopardizing your career.

When are we getting the “Fly Delta” and “DELTA LEADS THE WAY” lanyards?

DL guy here. I loved explaining to people that we as pilots voted to authorize a strike and were just waiting to be released from negotiations with the company. A lot of people would say they weren’t going to book with delta because they didn’t want their travel plans disrupted. They asked us a lot about it because our lanyards said ready to strike. Not sure if it was effective, but we got the ball rolling for everyone else.

I think it’s a bit juvenile, but then again delta always has done it well and with results, clearly. So I do it. I’m referring to the bag tags and lanyard. The Alpa pin I’ve always worn, and when I see someone without it I always take notice.

The big part of what has hurt us is the previous LEC leaders that refused to resign. They gave us a turd, and then fought their own agendas to remain with their 94.5hrs FPL thereby extending the timeline unfortunately. Even SFO that survived the recall, barely, well they aren’t going to be re-elected and I’d be disappointed if they even tried to run again. Just go away. That whole debacle exposed the unity, or lack thereof. Hopefully we’re on the right track now.

The customers pay attention too. When the AIP was announced they said congrats on the new contract. I would tell them that we just had an agreement, we needed to finalize the language and vote. Then it changed to “good luck”
