Default IAH Base and CA Upgrade

Hello
What are the chances for a new joiner to get IAH base ? If so , on what type ?
How many years would take for new joiner to go for command ? Any base , any fleet .
Thanks

The last 3-4 months have had essentially unlimited 737s in IAH offered to new hires. The most junior person in this week's class had the choice to go to IAH. Of the 58 people in the class, there were 40 737 spots, unlimited for EWR and IAH.

The current upgrade time, for simplicity's sake, is 1 year and 1 day.

Captain, any base, any fleet is a tall order

Some bases widebody captain is close to 10% systemwide seniority… if you want weekend reserve

IAH 737/320/756 fo is very junior
737 captain is *currently* 1 year
Other captains much more senior

Junior captain is about 80% system seniority
95th percentile captain is about 60% system seniority

DL for 8 months, but IAH is home. United has never been so incredibly tempting. Bird in the hand though, I guess.

8 months means very little if you could jump over and drive to work / hang out at home on rsv. I’d do it….

Hello all,

I'd like to ask about CA upgrade as well. I'm new to this forum and to flying in the U.S. in general. I've been flying in the Middle East for the past 10 years and currently preparing to move to the U.S.
I am considering United. I'm flexible in where I am going to settle. I do prefer IAD, MCO or EWR as family is there. My priority is command at the moment. I've flown the 737, 777 and 787 and done my share of international flying.

I'd love to fly the 756 until command is available on any fleet. I want to live in base and not commute. I want to end up in the Tampa area, DC, or New Jersey in that order

Should I have a job offer and based on current conditions what advice can you give me on what base and aircraft to fly if I do have the choice?

I appreciate it and apologies if I hijacked this thread

Safe flying

I hear that, entirely. Problem is that reserve is already good now. 12 (soon to be 18) hour call out for easy trips. Did reserve this month only blocking about half my actual credit and am rolling into 3 weeks off. Just hard to leave when I’m happy with results in exchange for driving to work.

8 months at recent hiring rates is 5 years in normal times!
