Thanks, I appreciate it

So finishing up the app and at the end it says I’ll have a physical by a doc of their choice.

I have a 1st class medical from a Sr AME with zero limitations

What’s this all about?

Is this like a OSHA test where you lift a milk carton and they make sure a face mask can seal, or are they going to attempt to give me a new flight physical or some sort?

Thanks

it’s where you sit in a cockpit for 6hrs, eat 3 crew meals (and that includes the cheesecake), and then you must demonstrate you’re still able to roll over like a fat seal while in the bunk. If you pass, you have a career as a United widebody pilot ahead of you. If not, you go to swa and buy your own airport muffins for 20 years.

New test is 5 push-ups, 5 sit-ups, and be able to step up on a 10 inch platform… if you can do that in 5 minutes and not have a heart attack you are good.

I thought they still required “fog the mirror” test.

I did the AMR physical in the mid 2000s and it was a stressful experience. They told me I needed glasses. They wouldn’t give me the job until I got them. I went home to my regular eye doc and he told me AMR was crazy. My vision was 20/20. He said although it wasn’t 100% perfect it was still 20/20 and the weakest prescription he could give me was too strong and would make it technically no longer 20/20. I passed this information on to AMR and they made me get the glasses anyway. They made me get glasses that made my vision slightly worse. I complied and then just never wore the glasses unless I was flying with a LCA or getting a line check or had a fed in the jumpseat. Their computer cognitive test was also a ridiculous experience that I could ramble on about but I doubt many of you have even made it this far so I’ll spare you.

Flew with a guy that interviewed with AMR in mid 80’s. After initially getting thumbs up astronaut physical gave him thumbs down for having gonorrhea. Dude spent a ton getting the high level tests done that all showed no gono. He sent this off to American and even got a letter from medical team agreeing he didn’t have gono. Only problem was they didn’t offer him a job. Poor guy did stints at Eastern, Pan Am, and eventually CAL vs what would have been a phenomenal AA career.

Yep, that was the most detailed physical ever. They did an in-person COG test too.

Were you able to pass the COG test without studying?
