Is this an issue on the 787 as well? People say it’s quieter.

No it’s not an issue. Don’t bring that S to the plastic princess.

I miss the 3 position toggle switch on the yolk that some aircraft have for PTT/off/intercom. Having to look down at the audio to cycle on/off the intercom for various reasons is annoying and makes intercom annoying for those flying with lip smackers

Please just try to normalize wearing headsets. Many other pilots will if asked. I can’t tell you how many times the other pilot will go speaker and then jack up the radios when I could hear perfectly fine on my headset.

I’ve already lost a noticeable amount of hearing in my left ear from flying with guys who refuse to use the intercom. I’ll have to undo my left ear piece leaving it unprotected and it’s already taking a toll after just a few years.

When you upgrade then you can set the “tone” about headsets 😂

Welcome to the world of noisy cockpits. You must be coming from the Airbus or the 787 with its quiet cockpit.
On longer flights I usually use the standard foam ear plugs which block the annoying avionics fan noise frequency and leave the ATC comms perfectly audible.
My audio tuning panel has the volume set at 60-70% and is clear enough to pick up relevant transmissions.
Try that, should help.
Otherwise, keep the headset on, but on longer flights it would be bothersome.

Solid recommendations for sure 🍻

Always fun flying with a loud speaker guy.

Coming from the 787, and the 757 and airbus besides…I’ve not really flown with a lot of people that keep their headset on the whole flight. On the 737 it was normal, but I can’t imagine even an ear mold for 6 hours.

First time I did it the CA was impressed at how clear the comms were and asked how to set it up. Now I’m trying to flip one CA at a time. As more Guppy CAs take refuge in the 777 I think you’ll get an increasingly agreeable audience. I also go on ANR headset whenever I’m listening to foreign controllers, when the other pilot trying to get by just on speaker gets embarrassed with being repeatedly helped out by me with calls and freq changes… I figure he/she might give ANR a go. Flew a transcon the other day with the CA up on hot mic the whole way, it was a treat.

All of this ^^^

I’m also considering the clarity aloft; mosh CAs at my shop insist on wearing a headset and getting ****ed when the intercom is on.

What adapter is the one to get for the 777?

Dual GA plug.
