Never an excuse. We are responsible for OUR behavior, nobody else. I have a friend who has lost both parents and is going through his second divorce in 2 years. That’s essentially 4 deaths in a two year span. He is reflecting, working out, reading self help books and leaning into therapy. Frankly, I’m sick of the excuses or worse, virtue signaling to show others that we are good guys taking the high road. This behavior should be summarily dismissed as unprofessional and unbecoming of a United pilot.

Where were his friends and family? Were they urging him to not remarry when his own life was upside down? Or were they derelict in not speaking up and guiding him?
With more than half of marriages going down in flames why do so many still think still something that must be accomplished.
If you were an instructor at TK, would you seriously sign off an initial newhire for the LOE if you felt there was a 50-60% chance they would fail it??
Of course you wouldn’t!

Especially since it can’t answer
You know it.
Just make sure to tape it. If it ever gets out, she’ll put her marketing experience to work, do a whole mea culpa video, taking responsibility for her actions, you’ll NEVER be shown, and NO ONE will be the wiser.

I’m not a mental health provider… so I don’t participate in conversations on the flight deck with a stranger (someone you’ve never flown with) that starts spewing their personal issues when you barely know their name! Last thing I want is a pilot thinking about their F’d up life before we land or during my pee break inflight… Thanks but no thanks.
Big serious question; after all this… Why in the world would you meet up at the bar with the pilot who just spent hours telling you their deepest/darkest personal problems?

Another thing, the cockpit ain’t a confessional. I’d recommend those folks keep it professional and simply show up ready to do the job. If you aren’t ‘fit’, then don’t come to work.
