Is global reserve only for WB? I read the TA but couldn’t really tell if it was addressed. Is it as bad as people make it out to be?
Depends what you consider bad, I’ve been rolled once a month into days off. Living in base it’s not bad and now if they do do it you’ll get paid. I think it’ll happen less now since they would roll someone by putting people with required days on short call. |

Whether it’s bad or not depends on your personal situation/philosophy. My buddy is good at maneuvering the system and never got rolled and was always able to protect his days off. He ends up barely working which is awesome. However, for me, the thought of needing to put a lot of effort in to ensuring I actually have the days off I already bid off is an anathema to me. |
And just to clarify CLE 737 is only global when they fly Azores. They are back to being a basic category again for reserve purposes until that flying starts again next season (assuming it goes back to the 737 and to CLE).

Currently it’s only WB except for CLE 737 and some 756 bases. It applies to any base/equipment that flies outside of US/HI/AKCanada/Mexico/Central America/Caribbean (forget offhand exactly how far into SA isn’t considered global). Right now the only NB base that does any global flying is CLE 737 for the azores but with the XLR’s and potentially the NEO’s doing Atlantic or deeper SA flying it’s a good bet most fleets will be global in the next decade or so.

Reserve callout times are based on reporting to the primary airport with consideration for extra time to get to the others. LAX has BUR/SNA/ONT and TPA will join MCO in short order; you can imagine the significant difference getting between any of those.
Thanks in advance |

If you commute, do they expect you to have a car in the area so you can drive to all of the bases?

Good first post, Jello, except that you missed the first definition in every major dictionary. DarkSideMoon's usage is absolutely correct.

IAD is going to see quite a bit of growth in the near to medium term as deliveries ramp up and the new gates are built over the train stop in nowhere. It also has plenty of growth potential just by adding banks (only three daily banks and 200+ departures right now). DEN and IAH can also grow but are already above 400 departures, so not as much. Our other hubs are much more constrained. EWR is obviously choking, so if the company wants to add significant connectivity on the East coast it will be in IAD. Good place to be based the next few years if you live there.
The future looks bright. The first satellite concourse is scheduled to be completed in 2027 and the second in 2028. Yes I know (so let’s say 2029 and 2031) but the money is there, the plan is there and they are going to be built. It will allow for a big increase in UAL operations. |

Chicago is currently gate constrained however that will change.
