Yup, I’d say ORD is going to grow significantly in the medium to long term. IAD has much more immediate potential just by adding banks, and new gates will add to that down the road.

With the new construction plans, there isn’t any new gate additions. Terminal 2 is turning into the international terminal being shared with AA. And the current F and E gates will be replaced by the satellite concourses. No new net add on for gates.. at best maybe 1 or two.
https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/fi...pendix_B_3.pdf So daily United branded flights probably won’t change much but there is the possibility of pretty significant mainline growth. |

It’s worth noting that the replacement gates will all accommodate mainline aircraft while the current F gates can only accommodate mainline at a few gates.

Good point. I will admit, I’m not sure about those new gates that have three different aircraft positions (A, b, c). Does that mean they could park and service two narrow bodies at the same time (eg. a and c?. If that’s the case I counted ~95 gates in total which would be about 10 more gates compared to what’s there now.
Thanks for posting that document, lots of interesting info. And to your point there’s nothing saying they will use those satellite gates for mainline (although that does seem to be the overall plan with shrinking express). So we’ll see what actually ends up happening. |

You might not retire in the top few hundred but youll still have a great career at United.
Keep in mind, he may be 1 year senior to you. Right now, that means ~2300 numbers. Almost 5,000 if he's 2 years ahead of you. I got hired at the end of "the last wave". Pilots 1000 junior to me were hired 7 years, 9 months after me. Pilots 1000 senior to me were hired 11 months before me. I'm a double-furloughee. I was hired at age 36. And I'll may not see widebody captain when I retire at age 65. No complaints. My career has been pretty good, considering all factors. But I made lemons out of lemonade. Play the long game. |

As for me... I got hired at the end of "the last wave". Pilots 1000 junior to me were hired 7 years, 9 months after me. Pilots 1000 senior to me were hired 11 months before me. I would speculate that, currently, we are not far from the "end of the wave". No complaints. My career has been good, considering all factors. Play the long game. |
I’m a corporate pilot that lives in New Jersey. I am on call 24/7 but only “work” 10-12 days a month. Is it possible to be at home that much at UA if you consider days not used on reserve as “off days”?
I was thinking of bidding captain ASAP and sit reserve at home. |
