Thanks for the clarification of when new hires will be able to upgrade, as well as the timeline. Helpful if waiting for a certain % to pull the trigger, as the percentage currently shown won't be realized till it sounds like this summer. I also agree there will be upgrades to be had after these huge vacancies. I just believe they will be in much smaller amounts, and much more competitive sr. wise. But yeah, with retirements alone, and honestly people needing a break after 2 years of NB reserve there will still be consistent movement NB left seat.

The re-growth of SFO and EWR are much more likely now, so the fear of nobody coming in behind you is greatly diminished.

I wonder if those who took bottom captain bids in IAH are starting to question their decision. They're not going to have people coming behind them for a while now.

You act like retirements aren't going to continue accelerating. I think there will be plenty of opportunities to upgrade in the future. We may not be seeing a vacancy bid every month, but there will still be opportunities.

age 67 is going to pass whenever congress gets around to actually passing a budget. Probably not this year, and maybe they'll drag it out with CRs until the next election cycle. But at some point in the next 18 months age 67 will happen and the retirements will slow considerably for a couple of years.

exactly this……and when the music finally stops there may not be furloughs or displacements but there may be years of only a handful of upgrades while people decades junior to you are CAs.
i would not recommend bypassing upgrade any longer if you have a desire to be a CA…..just my 2 cents. It’s time to get to the seat and base you want and ride out the chaos. |

in most worlds you'd be correct, but in the world of "my airline went all in on PoS guppies", it's a no for me Dogg. I'll pass like so many senior to me. New hire who commutes to perma reserve because you're hardcore maga and refuses to move to California, enjoy your pay rate! Lol. I really want to upgrade though, totally willing to do it, I just cant go from my WB schedule to working 17 days a month flying a guppy and 3-4 legs every day. Give me a different airplane and 1 Hawaii or transcon leg per day, and I'm in there! If the airbus was etops and did Hawaii, I'd leave WB FO yesterday.
