HIMS…..
What's the chances of getting hired at UAL with a previous drug test failure?
I've gone through all of the FAA/DOT required steps and will have my 1st Class medical and ATP reinstated very soon. Any help would be appreciated. Thx |

Talk to your HIMS pilot peer monitor about this. And also talk to pilots in HIMS that have gotten hired.
Narcotics or alcohol? Alcoholic or not? In HIMS now? If so, why not? If you take your recovery seriously I'm sure you'll know what to say. |

I just wanted to reach out and give you a shot in the arm and bit of encouragement. I've have known a couple terrific guys who went through HIMS and are now leading awesome lives and have great careers. I'm new here at UA and from my limited perspective after interviewing here I believe they would be open to considering someone who has been through HIMS, as I remember they had questions about the HIMS program on the application. United seems mostly interested in hiring good people who can work well with others and fly airplanes, convince them of that and I am inclined to believe they'd be open to giving you the job.
You need a year or two or three with a boring paper trail. |

I’ve got a friend that several are trying to get to united. He had an alcohol issue several years back. The unofficial word I’ve heard is ten years post incident. Right now after hiring fairs and CPO m&g he can’t even get a hogan invite. Anecdotal, so take it for what it’s worth. |

United's HIMS program is the flagship amongst all the legacies. Tolerant, well-run and extraodinarilly generous.
Most of our pilots have no clue how many of their peers are in this program. If you're on a widebody, chances are you don't even get through your month without flying with somebody who is a recovering addict of some sort or another. (I say that because of length of service, and amount of pilots) As far as HR goes, they don't get an automatic penalty flag on this one. HIMS is too carefully negotiated and andminstered for them to have much to say and for UAL to have any real liability exposure. If you're in HIMS and sober, you've got a first class medical and aren't any different from a pilot with another special issuance. If they could discriminate against you for being an alcoholic, then anybody with benign heart disease, monovision or even a hypertension special waiver could be sent packing. Anybody who flew at COEX knows we had a guy who got fired for flying under the influence of cocaine, went through HIMS, and still came over here on the flow-through. Your first stop is your current ALPA LEC HIMS volunteers. They'll actually know the answer to the question of "yes or no?" and "how long?" They also know our HIMS volunteers. |

Not disputing the rest of your post, at all. |

Not 100% accurate. Was at CAL first…then flowed DOWN due to furloughs. Both COEX and CAL tried to fire said individual. Guy went through HIMS and flowed back up at some point.

I forgot, you're absolutely correct. Thank you. There are hundreds of pilots in the program.
