The same could be said for us replacing 50 seat jets with the CRJ-550, but for some reason we used a bunch of negotiating capital to basically knee cap these airplanes. This is the worst part of our otherwise really good contract.

The CRJ will likely still be flying after the sun uses all its nuclear fuel, Judgement Day arrives, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride once more.

Actually, come to think of it, only three Horsemen will ride. The fourth will be left behind in ORD because weight restrictions on the Deuce...

Pretty sure he’s talking about a 737.

Those planes were specifically designed to evade our scope clause. The fact that they aren’t operationally useful right now is a testament to the original scope language, not a reason to change it.
UAL could fly as many of the 550’s as they want at any weight they want if they just put United pilots in them.
Alternatively, they can count them as the “large RJ’s” they were originally designed as and upgauge some 175 flying to mainline planes.

The explanation that I got was that the price difference between what we paid for the max8 and the cost of the max7 or 319/320 neo wasn't worth it. Those in charge thought it was better to buy the max 8 instead, carry some empty seats, and have those seats available for future growth.

SK flew to France today

United Update

United Airlines CEO has reportedly flown to Toulouse. A potential order for additional Airbus A321neos is rumored.

Last week it was reported that Airbus was offering to buy back delivery slots from customers, and then offering them to United.

I'd say yes that's true for any future Chinese equipment.

UAL has bought plenty of used planes in the past when production slots become impacted. It's just the cost of doing business.

Still lots of use planes in the desert. Expensive to put back in the air, but doable.

Not going to happen. Animal welfare regulations require more ventilation for horses than the packs on the Deuce can provide.

It's fine for people, though.

I hope that he does place a large order, and I hope that potential deliveries aren't a long way off. Boeing has done this to themselves and they deserve the fallout. They can either genuinely fix their issues and earn back customer trust and their prior reputation for quality, or watch Airbus take over commercial aviation.
