Second this!

IAD is in the South? I guess if Gens. Lee and Jackson had won, instead of Gens. Grant and Sherman, you'd be correct 😁

Also, I’ve read a decent amount of other UA/DL post, but haven’t been any in a minute/wanted to pitch my scenario..
Always liked the Delta brand/image more, tho Im not opposed to UA’s due to their WB presence and seniority wave. Tho I am only open to living in the south, therefore would like to hear ppl’s concerns on ATL v IAH.

ATL: Its a HQ, can be a SIL, never going away, huge network from ATL (great variety), plus delta intl. growth seems hopeful for the 350-1k orders and 330’s.
IAH: Would ideally want to live in AUS (imagine rough or Woodlands, tho IAH seems to be the mistreated stepchild of UA with an extremely poor intl. network, relatively small base, and goes very senior regarding WB positions. Also, less career flexibility in IAH as well.

I’m aware EWR/SFO have great networks and are junior, but I would have to be a commuter my whole life. I’ve seen these forums speak relatively poorly on UA commit policy v DL, but is it negligible? Between IAH & ATL as only-viable bases does that change DL’s disadvantage of being slower seniority climb/less WB?

Hope everyone is well, and thank you for your input, really excited & fortunate, but now stressed to make this decision. I know I’m limiting myself to ATL/IAH but I’m a southerner & want to make the most out of living down here, thankya!

*Copied from DL forum to get more input, sorry if that’s frowned upon

You go to the first class date, when you get the second class date reevaluate the situation and see if you want to give up that seniority. Then it’s just a matter of where you want to live. At the end of the day your seniority progression and career earnings will be fairly equal. Sure one will likely be 5% better than another, but good luck predicting that accurately.

If you love Delta’s vibe and wearing a hat every single trip then go with that. Other than that you can’t go wrong. IAH doesn’t have the greatest WB trips, but it sounds like Delta’s scope means there isn’t incredible WB flying out of ATL either.

Go to Delta and never look back. United has it's positives like more WB. However when it comes to trading and dropping Delta wins hands down. They can drop RSV days and move things around we can only dream about at United.

The name of the game the LONG game is Quality of life. If Delta is a 9 were a 5 at best at United.

Delta

How is IAD considered South?

1) take the delta class date. Passing up a major class date is prima facie evidence of a mental deficiency incompatible with a First Class Medical
2) For context, a historical 27yo choosing an airline who retired today would have done so in 1986. At your proposed choices of Delta and United you could have ended up being a DC8 FO. TWA had retired their 707's two years prior ... so you would have missed that opportunity. The things that will make United vs Delta a better choice in 2050 and beyond are unknowable. Maybe Delta holds out 8 years longer for single pilot ops. Maybe United actually gets carbon neutral SST's. They're both great choices.

I mean sshhit....if demographic and voter preferences continue...ATL will be more like NYC and Austin will be (could be argued already is) San Francisco........and DTW and southern Wisconsin (ORD) will be the New "South"

Ever hear of the Mason-Dixon Line? Or the Civil War?

While DC is it’s own animal, Virginians consider themselves Southern.

DC feels about as southern as San Francisco.
