Fast forward a few years….

Think this can’t happen at United? Delta? UPS?

One thing we can all count on - we are all one bad management team away from really, REALLY hard times. I don’t care what they tell you with regards to how many WB’s or pilots they wanna have by 2030 or whatever…. Heavy dose of skepticism is warranted.

My advice is simple… get hired, move to a domicile if at all possible unless living in one already and settle the fk down. Grass is always greener elsewhere.

Given our seniority system, jumping around chasing that WB or that upgrade inevitably bites people in the a$$. You may get lucky…. or you may get bitten.

lUal and lCal in the mid/late-90s. Lot of people jumped from lCal to lUal, if they stayed at lCal they'd be senior WB Captains now instead of senior WB FOs.

It's not a career, it's a lottery.

If I would have stayed at Colgan in 2005 I'd be a DELTA CA (without ever having to interview I think?) with decent seniroity....if I would have stayed at XJT I would have probably gotten Hired at UAL a longgggggggg time ago. Instead I went to NK thinking it was my last ever airline. here I am 98% 737 FO EWR. 20 years to go, probably a lot more bad decisions ahead.... Ya win some, ya lose some. In the words of Joe Dirt, you have to "Keep on, Keepin on"

Entirely different management practices and outlooks. UAL wants to run an airline. FedEx wants to be a shell of itself and farm out their flying to anyone but a Purple tail pilot.

Move to MEM? Have you ever been?

right now that is the case, but remember smisek. Things can change quickly. Just enjoy each good day and plan for the bad day.

This is correct. Take a look back and you'll see every airline has had a turn as the place to be and the place to get the hell away from. 20 years to go and I expect to see another evolution of this cycle.

I think that is a very underrated yet very significant point you make.

Ive gotten trolled for this but it is very important to remember UNITED is an AIRLINE, FedEx is a global logistics and supply chain company that utilizes Air Transport as part of thier Business model.

5 years into Brown and I’m thinking about leaving, mostly just because I miss flying pax, layovers and being treated like an airline pilot and not an hourly.

In the same position at purple, 6 years in and 35. I get it. Brown seems to have an upside now since they have the daytime postal contract for at least 5 years now. Were not looking great here.

Often because it's being fertilized with different BS.

Italic. Underline. Bold.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times. What’s happening at FedEx is not a cyclical adjustment, it’s a fundamental shift in the way the company does business. Those who ignore that fact do so at their own peril.
