That is the key. Apparently doing something like HNL-HKG-GUM will get you detained for questioning.

one would not get detained for quesitoning in HKG with that route. Perhaps thru PEK or PVG. But HKG is super easy to transit thru.

I’m a bit disappointed that no one has mentioned yet how bad this is going to be for us.

Furloughs, anybody?

(Yeah, that was sarcasm.)

I would question the logic of the traveler....... Hopefully it wasn't anyone listed on my pass travel benefits. However looking at United non rev travel Facebook group there are people that do itineraries like that..........and then complain when they get stuck somewhere unfamiliar.

Unless they are planing on retiming these somehow, they just turn back to the US and dont have time to do a BKK turn. Or they will dedicate a plane to do the turn, but the article seems to indicate that is not the case. Although TPG is not exactly a trusted source for detailed information.

Hmm, good point. Then I guess less total WBs routing through HKG vs starting 2 new direct ULH/LH routes. If BKK and SGN are successful, then they will definitely start flying direct on a 787.

Explained on another forum. Double daily LAX-HKG takes 3 aircraft. Running a BKK and SGN tag out of HKG will only require one additional aircraft. Pretty slick...

Doubt it will last long with the economic crash around the corner.

The new cities are BKK and SGN, however they will be flown as a penalty lap from HKG.

I wonder why United chose HKG.

We don't touch any destination out of NRT that ANA already fly to.

Is this the same economic crash that’s been right around the corner for 5 years?
