Anybody worried about their like, jobs or anything?
"Next time someone tries to convince you of something, look at what they do, not what they say" Famous Buddhist quote. Essentially actions speak louder than words. Furloughs, downgrades...typically you can see them coming before they are announced you will notice this through management actions or inactions......not because some Angry Boomer Captain who's hungry for some shadenfreunde....tells you about what he heard from his buddy who was at the standards meeting. I would have more concern about a potential JetBlue acquisition...which as far as we are concerned (see ALPA admin Manual section 45) would really just be a merger. |

Out of the last 8 legs I've done, 7 of them had less than half the cabin occupied by paying pax. I hope that's just this time of year (traditionally slow), but even looking at both Hawaii trips I have over the next few days, we have 60+ open seats on every leg. I can't remember the last time I did any of the islands (which is nearly all my flying) in which we had anything more than 2--3 open seats.
Hopefully this is just temporary. Hopefully. |
This is temporary, don’t let the MSM fool you. Thirty five years in this business and Ive seen these “cycles” repeat themselves over and over. Oil prices will reduce to a more reasonable level and things will return to “normal”. United is in a very good position financially to weather this storm. And for the newbies here, for the love of everything holy, live below your means. There’s the old saying in the airline world: “You’re not a real airline pilot until you’ve been divorced, bankrupt, and/or furloughed”!
