Supposedly took CAL 80 phone calls to get 15 guys back on this last bid, granted they get one refusal before they have to accept if I remember correctly.
There are not any United Furloughed Pilots who have been out for nearly ten years. UAL recalled all of the original furloughed pilots last time, so most have only been out a couple of years at most.

There are several hundred voluntary furloughees (work contracts, mil leave, etc) that were able to bypass the first time and bypassed the second time. Many of them have been out since '01.

Unless you were on a leave during the first round of furloughs, I think that you had to come back or quit, at least that was how I recall it. They went down the list from most senior to junior and you could bypass, and then they went down the other way and you had to either come back or quit.

That is true. There were no involuntary furloughees from the original 2172 furlough that did not return or give up their seniority.

After the entire seniority list was given recall, it was gone through again and the second offer had to be taken or a resignation was required. UAL then had new hires from 2007.

There are now 1437 furloughees, which includes some of the original 2172 that are now on their second furlough, and the new hires. No one has been furloughed any longer than the latest round that started in 2008.

Anyone have any ideas on a timeframe for Continental hiring/training plans? As a furloughed UAL, just wondering when the "new" jobs at Continental could come our way. Any guesses on UAL takers? Personally, I would consider it, but the threat of Guam might scare me away.

No news just rumor on hiring. Rumors keep floating around that a bid should be out this fall that might require hiring, but you know how rumors are.

Threat of Guam? With the G-Spot and the Viking Club, there's plenty of family entertainment.

Lets just day I am cautiously optimistic about Bid 11-08. I have heard rumors about recalls to the tune of everyone all the way to hiring.

VRFs (reduced flying offers) abound though.

Rumors I have heard "from the training dept"...120 fo vacancies 60 upgrades.

CLE here I come(NOV)!!!

Question: why fear GUM? I hear its the best base in the biz. (disclaimer) I have never been out there but I have not run in to ANYONE that has and didn't love it.

I case this hasn't been answered; CAL will not be hiring off the street. The joint TA, that you can get from the UAL or CAL ALPA site, requires CAL to hire from the top of the UAL furlough list (bidding on the bottom of CAL list, but keeping the UAL pilot’s original UAL seniority for integration).

The bid isn't out yet because it contains 787 flying, and we just found out there will be more delays in production.
