Default Management Playbook Contract/Strike Strategy

Here are the 1985 videos of then UAL CEO Dick Ferris trying to manipulate
the pilots to see it managements way and not strike. It would not be surprising
to see Smisek try similar tactics as we push back and cause mgmt. to fear a strike.
Same old song and dance bullet points.
Responsibility manipulation
- Cost competitiveness (is your responsibility)
- Changes in future costs (are your responsibility)
- We're not bringing pilots on (back) because you're too expensive (your responsibility)
- No concessions is a problem with your thinking and impossible (your responsibility)
- Give a little so we can be more competitive (your responsibility)
- If you go along, there will be new shiny airplanes and growth (again your responsibility)
(American's large "we need you to help pay for airplanes" play right now - AA Order Play )
- We've treated you well in the past (your responsibility to give back)
- We're going to close domiciles/downsize/furlough if you strike (guilt for coworkers)
Fear manipulation (you have no power and will lose)
- Strike breaker hiring
- We'll hire worldwide getting cheap labor
- Seniority loss
- We will go on without you
- There are no other options than what we're telling you
- You're going to damage the rest of your lives by your demands

The union ie. MEC may also try to convince you that there is no possibility of anything better, and
that if you vote no, the alternative will be much worse. It's time for us to be educated on what
could come and what maneuvers will be tried with us. Use your own common sense and standards regardless
of what the company or MEC says is "possible". What's possible is what we collectively stand up for. Vote no to anything less.

UAL Negotiation

Delta Negotiation

Southwest Negotiation

Some things to watch for going forward.

A little too slick, it would seem.

Amen. All efforts should be geared towards a declaration of impasse. This is the only way we'll get back what we all deserve...hit the streets.

Release from mediation? Sounds good but I hope every one is on board. The 83-85 poison still runs strong on the cal side and the 520-740 still is on the united side.

I Just hope when and if it does happen it is the strongest UNITED group in history. Stay strong Stay UNITED.

As of Aug 2007, there were 135 UAL SCABS left on the property, roughly 2% of the pilot list.

Might be right with that number as I have lost track, but the number is much larger when you look at the people with big question marks.

One I forgot, for the mgmt. "Fear manipulation" section;
"We will publicize in the media how greedy/disruptive you are so that the flying public doesn't like/respect you"
Really, some of us have to stop fearing/worrying about public perceptions.
It is one of the easiest tools for mgmt. to manipulate against you.
