24hrs off AT Domicile
I glansed at this trip in skynet and noticed its an 8 day trip. I thought the UAL contract prohibits more than 7 consecutive days away from domicile!? Is that not the case anymore? International has it's own Hours of Service section. Section 22 or LOA 91-02 is where you want to look.

The bottom line is: This trip goes against all that UAL pilots are accustomed to, we got rid of trips like this in the interest of safety many years ago. In fact, Singapore and Bangkok turns at 6 days were already dangerous enough (ask IAD crews). Yet this is another proof that the current management may be worse than under Tilton and I never thought I would ever say that! Junior pilots get ready. This trip is not going to to make you happy. :(

I agree. However, LeeMat's response implied that the provision was better than CAL's and prevented the 12+ days in a row for domestic operations. I was just pointing out that CAL too has both a domestic and an international requirement for 24 hours off. CAL's is just like UAL's domestically: 24 hours off in base w/ an attempt for it to be a calendar day. Internationally, the rest can be downline at an outstation. All of us at CAL know as soon as we go to an "international" destination and have a 24-hour layover, a pilot could be in for a world of hurt going forward. Was not debating that premise at all. |

That is the way our trips and schedules have to be built as well. It would not count, unless of course there is an international leg on the trip somewhere. The 756 community is used to trips back-to-back because of the international, down line rest provision. The 737 group does not see this as much when schedules are built. Unfortunately, at CAL there are movable days off on reserve. So where that would come in to play is if the company needs to "roll" a day off past the sixth day. Somewhere on the sixth day or before a reserve would be given 24-hours off in base and then a trip assignment after the break. This, of course, assumes we are talking about trips with only domestic flying in them. |
