United Pilots Cite Safety Concerns
Reply
It's far from paradise. The company is merging proceedures with Continental and some of the changes are significant. The only training has been on a computer. When all is going well, things are probably fine, and pilots can fumble through callouts that were never ingrained in a sim. If you lose an engine or hit a bird right after takeoff in the weather, the concern is which callouts/proceedures you are going to use reflexively when you never trained in a sim.

FWIW,
Today when Lord Jeffy decreed that this is a negotiation tactic at the CEO "exchange" in EWR, the entire group of pilots in attendance got up and walked out on him.

I heard around 60 or so......mostly in Black but a few in Blue as well.

I'm not on either property anymore, and take this in the manner intended....until you all are willing to call in sick and tired.....I quit.....nothing will probably happen on these issues. One side or the other can sue, grieve, send requested white papers to congress, etc.....minor inconvenience for the company. They'll continue to get their bonuses as long as the wheels keep turning.

For the UAL guys/gals, if it is that bad regarding the SOC training.....then you're not safe.

When you boys and girls have truly had enough and are ready to take your skills from the game, Jeffey will wake up.

The day everyone calls in sick and tired, I've had enough, you'll get some serious traction.

It'll never happen.....but is really the true answer to your problems. If you're waiting for the auspices of the RLA to mandate a solution......keep waiting for another half a decade.

A pilot group(s) that is ready to walk on strike is a strong weapon in negotiations once that avenue is available (PEB aside). A group of pilots just willing to quit and say good luck is a group in control of their future.

My 2 cents.

Probably worth more than two cents Lee. There is a lot missing here compared to what was present in 2000.
